"Translations" by Brian Friel at Studio Theater SIGNUP CLOSED

Sunday, April 15 at 2 p.m. (signup deadline was 3 pm, Mar 28)
Studio Theater (Metheny Stage), 1501 - 14th St. NW

Take a break from tax-tiime anxiety and join a congenial group of Village members and guests for a stimulating and entertaining afternoon of theater. We will enjoy a performance of "Translations" by the outstanding contemporary Irish playwright, Brian Friel. It is 1833, and change is coming to rural County Donegal: While a hodgepodge group gathers at an Irish-language hedge school to study classics of Greek and Latin literature, British army engineers arrive to map the country, draw new borders, and translate local place names into the King’s English. Languages and histories collide, kindling romance and inciting violence. A modern classic from Brian Friel, an Irish master, directed by Matt Torney, Studio’s Belfast-born Associate Artistic Director, "Translations" reminds us how personal the political can be.

Tickets are $42.50 each and can be purchased by members and social members for themselves and guests by calling the Village office at 202-543-1778 or emailing info@capitolhillvillage.org. Early reservations are encouraged, to be assured of tickets rather than being put on the waiting list, and to minimize risk of having to cancel for insufficient numbers. If you do reserve after the first 10 tickets are sold and before the deadline, you will be placed on the waiting list and we will ask the theater for additional tickets. However, additional tickets depend on what the theater has available and we cannot guarantee tickets to those on the waiting list. (Tickets do seem to be selling fast.) Please also let us know early if you have special mobility, sensory or cognitive needs so there`s time to make those arrangements with theater. (We can arrange accessible seating aread of time, and assisted listening devices are available at the theater.) Pay for tickets by check made out to Capitol Hill Village with "Translations" noted on the memo line, and mailed or hand-delivered to Capitol Hill Village, 725-8th St. SE, 2nd Floor, Washington, DC 20003.

Closer to the time of the performance, Eileen Leahy, the volunteer member organizing the play, will contact those with reservations regarding arrangements for distributing tickets and whether there is interest in a gathering afterward at a nearby restaurant or a member`s home. You may email Eileen at chvtheater@gmail.com if you have questions.

Members, social members and their guests.
All 10 places taken, 1 wait listed, you may signup for the wait list.
