Leveraging Resources Handbook: Collaborations Between Villages and Area Agencies on Aging

Check out the new “Leveraging Resources Handbook” from the Village to Village Network, CLICK HERE.

This project highlights the value of existing Village and Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) collaborations and the exciting potential for the growth of these relationships. The purpose of the handbook being to serve as a catalyst for many more connections between Villages and AAAs as the organizations gain greater understanding of what each offers and how together we serve our common goal of an enriched and healthy environment for older adults.

Check out the Handbook for a “case study” of the DC Villages’ relationship with the Department of Aging and Community Living and a section on Capitol Hill Village and our work with DACL on LGBTQ programming.

  • Get Your Move On! CHV wants to get you moving, and we’ve got lots of ideas. For two weeks, starting Saturday Sept. 17, you can rack up activity minutes and help raise funds for CHV programs. Check out the Events List for activities you can join, and check the GYMO web site for special walks and bike rides. Save October 1 for a GYMO Celebration in Lincoln Park! See pages 1 & 2.
  • Pickleball may be an activity you’ve been wanting to try—read how Village members took the initiative to create a playing court on Capitol Hill. There are frequent games and new folks are always welcome. See page 8.
  • CHV is also encouraging you to get a move on Getting Your Papers in Order. Those important personal and legal documents need to be up-to-date as part of end-of-life planning. See page 4.
  • If you need transportation to doctor’s appointments, educational programs, or other activities, there is news on the VetsRide Program and ConnectorCard. See page 5.

Save The Date: 2022 LGBTQ Intergenerational Symposium!

The Capitol Hill Village virtual LGBTQ Intergenerational Symposium (established in 2020) centers the experiences and voices of LGBTQ community members of different ages. The purpose of the Symposium is to bring together generations of the LGBTQ community and allies to have fun, connect, and learn. The Symposium includes panels, breakout sessions, health and wellness sessions, and more!

This year’s theme is “Over the Rainbow” which centers around the idea that our community is continuously expanding, developing, and looking towards the future. The virtual Kickoff will take place on September 22nd at 6:00pm and the Symposium will be September 23rd from 12:00pm to 4:30pm. Registration opens on September 1st!

  • Thinking about the Perfect Coda for a Life Well-Lived. A June Capitol Hill Village Symposium was Part II of a program encouraging members to think about and talk about their end-of-life. Two end-of-life options were featured: hospice care and DC’s Death with Dignity law. See page 8.
