What Is The Capitol Hill Village Legacy Society?
The Capitol Hill Village Legacy Society was established to honor those who have included Capitol Hill Village as a beneficiary of a gift from their will, estate or other assets and to ensure their aspirations for their gift are fulfilled after their passing.
Such gifts have the potential to significantly better the lives of Capitol Hill residents and the Capitol Hill community into the future. They are the seeds that become trees after our passing that provide shade and comfort to future Capitol Hill generations.
Before the founding of the Capitol Hill Village Legacy Society, individual members and friends had made provisions on their own initiative for such legacy gifts. Their gifts have allowed for the establishment of a growing endowment and a critical opportunity reserve, earnings from which provide a base of ongoing support for programs and services where the need and potential are greatest.
Most past legacy gifts have come as a surprise after the donor’s passing without the opportunity for us at Capitol Hill Village to understand the donor’s aspirations and preferences, no opportunity to consider if or how to honor them during their lifetime and after their passing. For these reasons, we encourage those making a legacy commitment or their legal representative to confidentially discuss their intentions with CHV when they are making their plans.
The Capitol Hill Village Legacy Society was founded to provide assistance to those considering such a gift and to their legal and financial advisors. It is also designed to ensure that Capitol Hill Village understands and can fulfill donors’ aspirations in a manner that reflects their preferences.
