Capitol Hill Village is a volunteer-first organization. When an e-mail arrives or the office telephone rings, members are offered transportation, in-home help (with paperwork, meal preparation, organizing stuff, etc.), gardening and personal assistance, convenience services (such as errand running, waiting for deliveries and repair persons to arrive, picking up tickets, etc.), tech support, and light home maintenance by one of our many wonderful volunteers.
But Capitol Hill Village also offers its members one-stop service for home maintenance and repair and for personal services.
Preferred vendors, selected from the favorites of current members, include those who repair appliances and windows (and an excellent business that cleans them), a roofer, a chimney sweep, electricians and plumbers, handymen, and those who plan and plant gardens.
We selected the best of the best from members’ recommendations and checked our choice with Washington Consumer’s Checkbook’s lists of businesses that have satisfied members. We know that our choices will treat members like their best customers. They come when they are called and most offer discounts to Capitol Hill Village members. In order to underscore the value of our members to these businesses, we ask that members e-mail us or call the office whenever they need services or repairs.
As members ask for services for which we do not have a preferred vendor, we select one, based on thoughtful vetting.
Members who want competitive bids on jobs are provided with not only a Capitol Hill Village preferred vendor, but complimentary membership to Washington Consumer’s Checkbook on-line. There, members can identify other businesses that will offer bids and will service Capitol Hill.
If it is necessary to provide physical assistance, Capitol Hill Village has a contractual arrangement with Home Care Assistance, a top of the line in-home care specialist, to provide home health aides and certified nursing assistants for members at discounted rates.
Following any visit from a volunteer or vendor, members are called to check on their satisfaction, and any follow-up is performed, if necessary.
To Potential Vendors: Please call the CHV office at (202) 543-1778 or e-mail us at if you would like to speak with someone about services you are interested in offering.
