One e-mail or phone call for access to a wide variety of services and activities. Our services follow the needs and desires of members.
Volunteers stand ready to provide free:
- transportation to members for planned trips or at the last minute.
- help with vexing electronic issues, including computer mysteries, programming thermostats, DVDs, phones, clocks and watches.
- light home maintenance like light bulb changes, mattress flipping,
- speeding slow drains and someone to help think through projects.
- at home assistance with paper work, occasional meal preparation and companionship, regular check-in, sorting and disposing of stuff.
- expert gardening advice on small space gardening and weeding.
When a volunteer is not available, contact with Capitol Hill Village sets in motion arrangements for services from vetted vendors. Businesses have been selected from those repeatedly recommended by members and/or who have received high satisfaction ratings from Washington Consumer Checkbook. Many do much of their business on Capitol Hill. Members call for preferred plumbers, window washers, electricians, handymen, painters, metal workers, rug cleaners and many more. Charges to Capitol Hill Village members are often discounted.
Members who want to compare bids for services can use complimentary access to Washington Consumers' Checkbook (www.checkbook.org) on-line to identify other vendors to call.
Regular personal assistance from partner Home Care Assistance can be arranged, after injuries or illnesses or when disabilities necessitate.
Members know that Capitol Hill Village makes follow-up phone calls to determine satisfaction with volunteers and service providers. When necessary, Capitol Hill Village acts as the member's advocate.
