Digital Preservation Basics and Scanning Workshop

Learn how to organize and maintain digital possessions, focusing on typewritten documents
and photographs. Topics will include best practices for storing, naming, and describing
digital files, as well as differences among file formats. There will then be a demonstration
showing how to scan photographs, negatives, and slides with equipment from the Memory
Lab. After the demonstration, you will get a chance to scan your own personal items
and transfer them to an external storage device. Be sure to bring no more than five
(5) documents, photographs, negatives, or slides from your own collection to use
during the scanning workshop. Also, please remember to bring your own external storage
device with at least 5 GB of available space.
