On September 19th, the Arthur Capper Senior Building caught on fire and all residents have been evacuated and are staying at one of four hotels. Residents lost everything and are facing a host of issues to resolve.
City Leaders have asked Capitol Hill Village to recruit individuals who would be willing to provide rides to seniors to doctors' appointments, to get groceries and to purchase new clothes and personal items.

Your Input is Still Needed on Electric Scooters and Dockless Bikes
DDOT recently extended the companies’ permits through December 2018. In early 2019, DDOT will complete review of public comments, along with the companies' input and data, and will recommend regulations to the Mayor. Yet rule-making that will shape decisions is already underway.
DDOT and other government agencies will benefit from hearing the ideas and opinions of older adults about the number of bikes and scooters to be allowed, as well as the rules that dockless companies will be expected to follow and who will educate users and non-users about requirements and public space. The October 2018 CHV News has an article explaining more about this issue, including the expansion of companies offering the profitable electric scooters.
