St Marks Church 300 A St SE
Webcast with noted surgeon Atul Gawande. Dr. Gawande is the author of the best-selling
book, Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End, and is dedicated to helping
seniors age on their own terms. While caring for his own elderly parents, he identified
how the U.S. medical system is failing those who are failing, and now, working with
hospice nurses, geriatricians and other health care reformers, he offers hope and
recommendations on how as a society we can do better. The webcast will feature people
who show us how to start the hard conversations and how to ensure we never sacrifice
what people really care about.
Waterfront Village and Capitol Hill Village are participating
as a part of an ongoing a community wide dialogue around longevity. Nationally the
webcast is sponsored by Beacon Hill Village and The Village to Village Network as
a part of Beacon Hill Villageís 15th anniversary. Beacon Hill started the village
concept in that Boston neighborhood; Capitol Hill Village, the nationís second village,
and is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Waterfront Village is the newest operating
Village in Washington, launching in February 2017 to serve seniors in the Southwest
Waterfront and Navy Yard. More information on Waterfront Village is available at
