Village Opera Society: Beethoven`s Leonore

Thursday, February 23 at 5:00-6:30 (signup deadline was 3 pm, Feb 22)
Private home

On March 5, the Washington Concert Opera will perform Beethoven’s 1805 telling of the story of the faithful wife, Leonore. After substantial reworking, the more familiar version, Fidelio, premiered in 1814. What are the differences? What new music will we hear? Sheridan Harvey will try to show where the two operas differ. For extra fun, Opera Lafayette is performing a 1798 version by Pierre Gaveaux on February 19-- Léonore, ou L’amour conjugal.
