Washington DC has undertaken a trial period of permits for dockless bike and electric scooter companies. These new transportation options provide a low cost, healthy, environmentally friendly and fun way to travel in the city. As managers of the pilot, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) continues to study the value, challenges and viability of the pilot. This includes the potential impact on pedestrian safety, for older adults and residents of all ages.
DDOT has extended the pilot until the end of August and continues to collect input from residents about how the trial is working. In June, CHV members and volunteers joined in a spirited discussion about dockless bikes and scooters and their impact on pedestrians, especially older adults, persons with disabilities, and others who use a mobility device such as a cane, walker, or wheelchair.
The transition to a new IT system continues: CHV staff is in the process of learning and launching a new computer system. Please bear with us as we navigate this transition. Call the office at 202-543-1778 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
