This issue of the News is chock full of fun activities to partake it. Join a Healing Circle. Attend one of the many book clubs or read poetry with like-minded members. Attend a movie and discussion about knowing when it's time to stop driving. And, when you have a moment, submit your comments about the dockless bikes and scooters to our elected officials. Happy summer!

Washington DC has undertaken a trial period of permits for dockless bike and electric scooter companies. These new transportation options provide a low cost, healthy, environmentally friendly and fun way to travel in the city. As managers of the pilot, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) continues to study the value, challenges and viability of the pilot. This includes the potential impact on pedestrian safety, for older adults and residents of all ages.
DDOT has extended the pilot until the end of August and continues to collect input from residents about how the trial is working. In June, CHV members and volunteers joined in a spirited discussion about dockless bikes and scooters and their impact on pedestrians, especially older adults, persons with disabilities, and others who use a mobility device such as a cane, walker, or wheelchair.
We have two vacation homes up for grabs. Please contact the office at (202) 543-1778) or firstname.lastname@example.org if you want to treat yourself to a great vacation while supporting the Village.
Berkshire by the Sea, Delray Beach, Florida. Take an early trip away from winter and spend the first full week in January 2019 at this luxury resort on the Atlantic Coast midway between West Palm Beach and Ft. Lauderdale. A ground floor fully equipped one-bedroom unit at this ocean-side resort offered by Andrea and Joe Kerr provides full use of two pools, a hot tub, tennis, shuffleboard, and a putting green less than 100 yards from the beach. Berkshire is walking distance—or free shuttle—from Delray Beach’s plethora of fine dining and shops, and easy drives to cultural activities in Coastal Florida. Good January 5 – 12, 2019 only. Value $2,100; minimum bid $1,000.
A Week at a Vermont “Walden” with Amenities. The farmhouse in Southern Vermont offered by Mary Procter and Bill Matuszeski provides beauty and tranquility both winter and summer (due in part to its lack of TV, cell service and internet). The house, steps to a small lake, has accommodations for up to 11 guests in five bedrooms with two and a half bathrooms and is equipped with toboggans, its own tennis court, canoe, kayak, croquet and bocce ball, and ample books, board games, and jigsaw puzzles. Good for any one week by mutual agreement except during the New Year’s holiday, a couple of weeks in July, and the month of August. Value $1,200; minimum bid $700.
